I created both a static and animated poster for a classic movie, choosing Jaws as my subject. Rather than following the traditional approach of using menacing, suspenseful imagery, I wanted to take a fresh perspective that felt more playful and unexpected. Instead of the typical vertical composition that builds tension, I designed an overhead view of a body of water, transforming key elements of the poster into pool floaties. Even the shark, usually depicted as a terrifying predator, was reimagined as a floaty, blending seamlessly with the lighthearted summer aesthetic I aimed to create. This unexpected twist added humor while still referencing the film’s core, offering a fun reinterpretation of its visual identity.
For the animated version, I wanted to bring the scene to life by animating the water and floaties to drift gently, mimicking the natural movement of objects floating on the water's surface. The shark floaty moves playfully through the water, subtly reinforcing the contrast between the suspenseful nature of the original film and the whimsical reinterpretation of its visuals. To further enhance this contrast, I paired the animation with the iconic Jaws theme song, allowing the ominous sound to juxtapose the lighthearted imagery.
