Watterson Pancake Dinner.

I designed a poster for the Watterson Towers dorms’ pancake dinner, an event held during Family Weekend at Illinois State University. My goal was to create a design that felt fun and inviting, capturing the warmth and community spirit of the occasion. To achieve this, I centered the poster around an illustration of pancakes, making them the focal point of the composition. I wanted the typography to be more than just text, so I creatively shaped it to resemble syrup dripping onto the pancakes, seamlessly blending the image with the message. This approach added a playful and interactive visual element, ensuring the design would stand out and immediately communicate the theme of the event. While I had creative freedom with the visuals, I also adhered to the Illinois State University Housing's brand guidelines by incorporating the official housing logo to ensure consistency with their established identity.

To further tie the design together, I selected a warm and inviting color palette that complemented the pancake illustration. These choices not only reflected the family-friendly and welcoming nature of the event but also preserved a polished and professional aesthetic suitable for promotional materials. The balance between creativity and brand consistency was essential, allowing the poster to appeal to a wide audience while staying cohesive with the housing services’ visual identity. The final design successfully conveyed the essence of the pancake dinner, blending playful elements with thoughtful attention to detail, and effectively invited families to join in the celebration at Watterson Towers.
