I developed a wayfinding system centered on family bonding activities in Chicago, featuring the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium as the selected destinations. To make the system inclusive and accessible, I considered multiple transportation options, including the CTA bus and the lakefront trails, allowing families to choose their preferred method of travel. Each destination was carefully integrated into the design, with distinctive visual elements to guide visitors effectively while maintaining a cohesive overall experience.

With children as my target audience, I designed the system for a sense of independence and engagement. A playful mascot was introduced to serve as a friendly guide, making navigation approachable and less intimidating for kids. Additionally, I created ground patterns and visual cues that were easy for children to recognize and follow, ensuring they could take an active role in the experience with minimal parental help.

Each destination had a distinct color palette to ensure clarity and help the children quickly recognize which location they were heading toward. To support the wayfinding system, I created posters, icons, signage, a map, and other necessary brand materials. By incorporating fun, colorful elements into the design, the system aimed to transform navigation into an interactive adventure, promoting both exploration and family connection.

I photographed these places and signs and used Photoshop to overlay my designs, integrating them into the environment. This made the system feel authentic while focusing on making the experience enjoyable and easy for kids to navigate.

I designed a t-shirt to highlight the branding of this environmental wayfinding system, bringing its core elements to life boldly and memorably. The design features vibrant graphics inspired by the system's color-coded destinations and signature ground patterns, seamlessly integrating the visual language of the wayfinding experience into a wearable form. Crafted from soft, breathable cotton, this shirt offers a perfect balance of comfort and style, making it an ideal choice for navigating the event or showcasing your adventurous spirit long after it’s over.

More than just a t-shirt, this design embodies the fun and family-friendly atmosphere of the wayfinding system, turning it into a wearable keepsake that participants can treasure. Whether exploring the event or reminiscing about your journey, this shirt is a tangible reminder of the vibrant energy and thoughtful design behind the wayfinding experience.

To complement the wayfinding system, I created medium-sized handheld brochures and passes that were easy to hold while biking or walking, ensuring practicality and convenience for families on the go.
