An Introspective Route.
Experimental Poster 16x40
Adobe Photoshop
February 2024
I created a poster using unconventional processes, focusing on non-commercial, social, environmental, political, or cultural themes. After experimenting with various materials, I chose the projection of light as the central element of my design. I’ve always been captivated by how light interacts with objects, space, and surfaces, and I saw it as a powerful medium to create an immersive visual experience. Most of the photos I took involved projecting light directly onto or through various materials, each revealing unique patterns and textures. This process allowed me to explore light’s potential to alter the mood of a space, evoke emotions, and tell a story. The final design aimed to visually represent the complexity of emotions—a journey or pathway through one’s inner world, shaped by the interplay of light and shadow.
The shape of the poster was also intentional, with its blank spaces inviting viewers to pause and reflect on their emotional states, encouraging introspection. I divided the poster into sections, each representing a different stage of emotional evolution through contrasting light patterns. These stages included searching, realization, understanding, and ultimately, a return to feeling like oneself again. The transitions between each section reflected the intricate and layered nature of emotions, with light patterns and their interactions symbolizing growth and transformation. By combining this thematic exploration with the tactile process of experimenting with light and materials, I aimed to create a design that resonates deeply with viewers, both visually and emotionally.

I incorporated hand-cut butterflies into the design, arranging them to convey a sense of motion and transition. On the darker side of the poster, they appeared to be flying upward, their placement creating a feeling of movement and progression, bringing the color. Their delicate forms added texture and depth to this area, subtly drawing attention to the complexity of emotions represented within the design.
As the composition shifted toward the lighter side, the butterflies transitioned from flight to rest, appearing as though they were gently landing. This shift in placement created a natural flow, reinforcing the narrative of transformation. The contrast between the flying and resting butterflies added a dynamic element, tying together the visual and emotional aspects of the piece.
