Cloud Care.

Speculative Design

Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop

November 2024

The CloudCare project is a speculative design concept addressing the global issue of air pollution by envisioning a groundbreaking solution: nanotechnology-powered artificial clouds. These "cloud filters" would hover over high-pollution areas, absorbing pollutants and releasing clean oxygen into the atmosphere. To enhance accessibility and awareness, the clouds would change color to indicate air quality in real-time, serving as visual indicators for residents.

This innovative approach shifts the focus from traditional, resource-intensive ground-based methods to a more efficient, large-scale air purification system designed strictly for urban areas where air purification is needed the most. I designed this as a product to be handled by people responsible for air quality regulations and urban environmental management. My role in the project involved creating a comprehensive visual identity system and supporting materials to communicate the concept effectively. I developed a clean, modern logo incorporating circular shapes and gradients to symbolize the clouds' filtration process and air quality monitoring. The three shapes of the logo each represent the cloud’s features. The collection of pollutants from affected air, the artificial clouds Nanotechnology-Based Filtration, and the releasing of clean oxygen back into the air. The design palette featured earthy and atmospheric tones to resemble sunsets.

In the animation I designed, I wanted a clean and to-the-point animation that appeals to government agencies, as it reflects professionalism and intentionality. The animation starts with the symbol fading in slowly for you to see the slight buildup of the three shapes. Once the symbol is complete, the wordmark starts typing out.

Additionally, I crafted an infographic, digital advertisements, and a mobile app interface, all of which were designed to educate audiences about the functionality and necessity of CloudCare while maintaining a professional and approachable aesthetic.

To further expand on the concept, I designed speculative product mockups, including wearable masks, digital billboards, and social media posts to demonstrate the versatility of the CloudCare system. These materials highlighted how the artificial clouds would interact with communities fostering public engagement.
